Project Overview
Situated on 107 acres along the Thames River on the outskirts of London, Ontario, Camp Woodeden has been providing accessible summer camp experiences since 1946. What makes it remarkable is not just its history – it is what happens there every summer. Physical barriers are removed, and campers with disabilities find a space where they can simply be themselves. For many, it is their first opportunity to climb, swim, paddle, create, perform, and simply belong.
The camp's facilities and programming are designed for complete inclusion:
- Purpose-built facilities feature one of the largest accessible high ropes courses in North America, an accessible indoor climbing wall, an accessible treehouse, an outdoor pool, and overnight camping in yurts along a dedicated nature trail.
- Dynamic programming spans adaptive sports – including sledge hockey, wheelchair basketball, and archery – alongside arts and crafts, music, drama, pottery, and leadership development.
Campers range in age from six to 42 and are supported by a dedicated seasonal staff of 68, including three registered nurses and three health care assistants. The experience is intentionally designed to build independence, confidence, and a stronger sense of self.
In 2025, the Jack and Barbara Hay Foundation was proud to support Camp Woodeden, investing in a place where every camper gets to simply be a camper.
